Speed Awareness Week begins Saturday
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Speed Awareness Week begins Saturday in New York.
It runs from July 31 through Aug. 8.
The state says speed-related fatal crashes increased by 36% in 2020 — leading to 365 deaths, including drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians, in 314 total crashes.
There were 230 fatal crashes in 2019.
Starting Saturday drivers will see more New York State Police on the roads targeting speeding.
The governor says their message is simple: "Slow down and drive responsibly."
