ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A special dedication was held Monday for musician and Eastman School of Music graduate William Warfield.
Jazmine Sanders was the latest winner of the William Warfield Scholarship. She was joined by members of the family and community leaders to unveil a bust and commemorative plaque for Warfield.
"It means that young people will now see this bust, and dream big, know that they can create whatever it is in their lives they want to create. They can become whatever they want to become. They can be whoever they want to be and it shows them that they can give back to the community and inspire the next generation," Thomas Warfield, nephew of William Warfield said.
The William Warfield Scholarship Fund has been presented to young African American singers at the school since 1977.
