Stolen car crashed on Empire Boulevard

PENFIELD, N.Y. (WHEC) — Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a motor vehicle crash Saturday evening where the driver, who stole an SUV, fled the scene.
According to MSCO, an SUV was traveling northbound on Empire Boulevard and crossed into the southbound lane striking a southbound vehicle. The SUV was stolen earlier in the day from Irondequoit where there was a chase prior to the crash.
The driver of the SUV left the scene while the driver of the other vehicle was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A New York State Police helicopter, MCSO K-9 unit and MCSO drone unit were assisting with the search. Authorities say after an extensive K-9 search, the male suspect was located and taken into custody, where he was not injured. While taking the male into custody, a deputy suffered a minor injury.
The male was turned over to Irondequoit Police Department. Per IPD, the male is a juvenile and his name and age will not be released at this time.
Law enforcement does not believe there is any threat to the public.
