ROCHESTER (WHEC) — New York State will allocate $4.5 million to expand child care centers across all State University of New York campuses to support students and faculty. The budget also includes $10.8 million for creating new childcare centers on-site at SUNY campuses.

The state and federal funding will also help to train the next generation of child care providers. Governor Kathy Hochul said the funding will be most heavily dedicated to areas with childcare deserts, areas with little or no access to quality child care.

During the 2020 to 2021 academic year, 1,200 students with children attended a SUNY college, 46 in total across the state.

"Child care services are a critical part of our economic recovery, providing parents much-needed support as they pursue an education or join the workforce," Governor Hochul said.
