Syracuse men’s basketball team’s next 2 games postponed due to COVID protocols

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WHEC) —Heads up, Orange fans, the men’s basketball team’s next two games have been postponed due to COVID protocols, the university announced Friday.

The team was scheduled to play against Lehigh on Saturday, and Cornell on Tuesday. Both games were set to be played at home at the Carrier Dome. While specifics were not shared, Athletic Director John Wildhack commented on the "challenges" the pandemic has presented for athletics programs.

In addition to the postponed games, Syracuse University also announced new protocols for Dome events, including:

  • All fans five and older must show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test.
  • No food or alcohol will be served at the stadium; beverages will ve available at cashless registers in the concourse

Cornell just recently put a pause on its on-campus activities, including games, due to a rise in COVID cases as the semester comes to a close.

According to the university’s athletic department, it is currently looking into whether the games can be made up later in the season. The women’s basketball game scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday against the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, will go on.

The men’s team (5-5) is next scheduled to host Georgia Tech on Dec.29.
