The Buffalo Sabres are getting a puppy, and they want you to help name it
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WHEC)— The Buffalo Sabres are adding a new paw-sition to the team! The team announced on Wednesday it’s getting a puppy, and it needs your help to name it!
In a series of posts on Twitter and Instagram, the team says fans can vote for one of five different names, which can be seen below:
- Bert- In honor of the franchise’s all-time leading scorer Gilbert Perreault, whose teammates called him “Bert.”
- Rick- In honor of Sabres play-by-play announcer Rick Jeanneret, who is retiring after this season.
- Audie- Named after the Buffalo Memorial Auditorium, where the Sabres used to play.
- Punch- Named after Hall of Fame coach and general manager George “Punch” Imlach.
- Puck- You can’t play an ice hockey game without a puck, right?
?? IT’S HAPPENING! ??

The team is following in the footsteps of the Rochester Red Wings, who of course, have the bestest goodest boy in Milo. The Sabres did not say when the final votes will be tallied up.
