ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A volunteer push to beautify Rochester is back on. The 2022 "Clean Sweep" took place at Frontier Field Saturday.

About 2,000 people came together to kick off the city’s "Clean Sweep Neighborhood Beautification Program."

Local churches, neighborhood associations, scouts, and other community groups worked to clean up Rochester.

Mayor Malik Evans welcomed volunteers at Frontier Field before they took off to 70 different project sites around town.

This is the city’s first clean sweep since 2019.

"Today is actually one of our favorite days of the year. One thing that we love is to see Joseph Ave getting a refresh. It’s definitely much needed. So, it’s clean sweep today and it’s almost like a national holiday for us around here. We really like to make that effort to join in as a group, as neighbors, as folks who love the community," said Reenah Golden, from the Avenue Blackbox Theatre.

After participating in the clean sweep, volunteers returned to Frontier Field to watch the Red Wings baseball game.
