LACKAWANNA, N.Y. (WGRZ/WHEC) — A significant problem with the electronic tolling in Western New York led to E-ZPass overcharges for some drivers.
The Thruway Authority told our Buffalo-area affiliate the misreads have impacted 59,000 drivers and the problem ranges from significant toll overcharges to malfunctioning E-ZPass electronic readers, and customer service headaches.
It happened in April at Exit 55 which is the site of the old Lackawanna toll barrier.
According to the Thruway Authority, drivers have received proper credits to their accounts and it was an "isolated incident".
The Thruway Authority’s advice for customers is to contact E-ZPass any of the following ways:
- The E-ZPass NY Customer Service Center at 1-800-333-8655 (press 9 to speak with a representative.) Wait times are lower during non-peak hours, especially Saturday 8 a.m. to noon.
- Filling out the form on the Thruway Authority’s website to have a representative contact them.
- Emailing public.info@thruway.ny.gov.
- Message the Thruway Authority on Facebook or Twitter.
