Two house fires overnight
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester Fire Department was busy responding to two house fires overnight in the city.
The first house fire occurred at an occupied house on Avenue B at approximately 10 p.m. According to RFD, the fire was in the kitchen area and under control in 15 minutes. The smoke detectors were working and alerted the residents. RFD says there were no injuries. Due to the uninhabitable condition of the home, five residents were taken in by family members.
The second house fire occurred around 5 a.m. on Mohawk Street. RFD says a newspaper delivery person noticed heavy smoke in the area and called 911.
Fire crews found a vacant row house with smoke and flames from the rear of the home. RFD says the fire traveled up the interior walls, which hampered efforts to bring the fire under control. The fire was under control in half an hour. There were no injuries. RFD is investigating the cause of the fire.
