ROCHESTER N.Y. (WHEC) – Both the University of Rochester and St. John Fisher College ranked in the top 60 for best master’s in nursing programs across the country. US News and World Report released their rankings on Tuesday for the 2021-2022 academic calendar.

Both colleges rose in their rankings for their master’s programs compared to the previous annual survey. The U of R ranked number 21 on the list and Fisher ranked number 56. For their doctorate in nursing program, the U of R tied for 27th and Fisher was 107th.

The survey assessed 601 nursing schools based on their research activity, faculty recourses, and expert opinions.

A statement from Fisher said a large percentage of their graduate stay in the Rochester-area and state healthcare workforce. Dr. Tricia Gatlin, dean of Fisher’s Wegmans School of Nursing, said she is proud of the dedication of the school’s faculty and students

"I am proud to lead a school that educates advanced practice nurses who are prepared to care for diverse patient populations and ready to meet the ever-changing demands of the profession and health care needs of our nation," Gatlin said.

Kathy Rideout, dean of the U of R School of Nursing, said the program prepares future nurses for a variety of work environments.

“The rankings reaffirm what we already know, which is that our students are getting the best preparation for future clinical, education, and research opportunities from one of the top institutions in the country,” Rideout said.
