IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. (WHEC) — Classes are canceled in the West Irondequoit Central School District Friday because the district says there are enough projected absences among staff members that buildings may not be adequately staffed.

The district did not specify in its message what the absences are for.

The cancellation applies for all students at all grade levels, district-wide.

Superintendent Aaron Johnson said classes should be able to resume on Monday, Dec. 20 as scheduled.

Students who live in the West Irondequoit Central School District but who attend private schools, charter schools or schools in other districts will still be able to get transportation to school.

Home sports games and other events will be rescheduled, but away games will go on as scheduled.

The district says coaches will contact student-athletes about Friday practices and games.
