WHO: New COVID variants could emerge that resist current vaccines

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND (WHEC) — The warning comes as COVID cases across the United States have skyrocketed in less than a month.

The WHO’s director general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus says it’s possible that new variants could become fully resistant to current vaccines or even past infections.

It isn’t a current issue, but as the pandemic drags on, he’s urging vaccine manufacturers to think about adapting current plans.

Since COVID-19, there have been five total variants according to the WHO’s website. Delta and Omicron are the most recent. All are covered by the current COVID-19 vaccine.
