ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Friday marked an exciting day for some students in the Rochester City School District as seniors at the World of Inquiry School took part in a "College March."

The event Friday morning saw students mailing letters stating their intent to apply to college or to commit to a plan for next year after graduation. As the seniors marched, the younger students looked on, holding signs and cheering for their friends.

A student marching band accompanied the seniors as they dropped off their letters.

Teachers told us this annual event helps inspire younger students.

"It’s a super important thing, kids get to see it, use it as motivation to, hey, next year I can get to the college march, two years I can get to the college march," Teacher James Flagler said. "It’s an important kind of symbolic representation of getting through high school."
