Yellow Alert for thunder and tropical downpours Thursday

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The News10NBC First Alert Weather team is hoisting a Yellow Alert for Thursday for thunder and tropical downpours that may produce locally heavy rain.

The severe storm threat, as far as gusty winds go, is somewhat low, but the threat for some localized flooding is the primary weather issue on Thursday.

Hurricane Elsa will weaken as it moves up the east coast. Meanwhile, Gulf of Mexico moisture will be drawn into the northeast, including western New York. The exact placement of the heaviest rain is nearly impossible to forecast, but the potential exists for up to 1 to 2" of rain where some storms do manage to get going, and any downpours redevelop over the same area.

Remember, a Yellow Alert is a "heads up" to pay attention to the forecast, and we will keep you updated on any changes both on-air and online. This may be a changeable forecast based on the track of Elsa.
