ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The heat is on this week! Air temperatures will climb into the lower 90s with dew points in the upper 60s and lower 70s. This will make it feel more like the mid to upper 90s during peak heating Tuesday through Thursday.

Heat Advisories are in effect for the area through Wednesday evening. Records won’t be broken, but the heat will tend to wear on folks as we progress through the week. In addition to hot afternoons, the nights won’t provide much relief. Overnight lows this week will have a very hard time dropping out of the 70s. If you work outdoors, make sure to stay hydrated and wear light clothing, and take frequent breaks.

In addition to the heat, a few storms may fire Tuesday afternoon/evening and could produce gusty winds along with locally heavy rain. The potential exists for some localized flash flooding in any storms.

Storm chances will go up again by Thursday and Friday ahead of a cold front. The First Alert Weather Team may expand the Yellow Alerts through the week if the heat continues to build, and storm chances go up. We’ll keep you updated on-air and online with the latest details.
