ROCHESTER N.Y. (WHEC) — Quiet weather this morning will give way to showers and thunderstorms later Monday morning through midday into the early afternoon hours.

Our threat tracker has a Yellow Alert as a heads up to be aware of the potential for a severe storm today. We issued this alert on Saturday morning to give you plenty of time to prepare for the stormy conditions.

The main threat from the storms today will be damaging wind gusts. Along with the wind threat very heavy rain, large hail and lightning are also expected.

There is also a small tornado threat with any storms that develop this afternoon, especially east of Rochester. Looking at the latest data this morning we are on the edge of the best severe threat here in Metro Rochester so will keep the alert at yellow rather than red.

It appears the best chance for damaging storms will be just to our east towards Syracuse. Having said that, we may see the storms build over parts of the eastside and Wayne County into the Finger Lakes.

Since this will be a developing weather story with our region right on the edge of the heaviest storms, stay tuned to News10NBC for all the latest updates.
