CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (WHEC) — The YMCA broke ground Friday on a new building in Canandaigua.
The Sands Family Foundation donated $13.5 million to the project.
The new 75,000 square-foot facility will be built on 13 acres of land donated by Constellation Brands. The overall construction costs are estimated to be more than $24 million.
"What is extraordinary about this day is two things. One is the incredible support from the sands family to make this happen and number two is the bringing together of two YMCA systems to create a new 21st-century YMCA," said George Romell, President and CEO, YMCA of Greater Rochester
The new Y is expected to open in the fall of 2023.
