ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Members of city council voted to confirm David Smith as Rochester’s new police chief.
Chief Smith is the first permanent chief in two years.
During his confirmation hearing last night, Smith answered questions on a range of issues from costs and morale to violence and the death of Officer Tony Mazurkiewicz.
On Tuesday night, the chief was confirmed by a vote of 8 to 1.
Councilmember Stanley Martin voted no because she said he didn’t intervene while citizens were harmed during protests after the death of Daniel Prude.
