Firefighters: Apartment wall caves in after water main break

BROCKPORT, N.Y. — People at the Winston Woods in Brockport were in their apartment as water came rushing in after a water main break.

Officials with the Brockport Fire District tell News10NBC they initially responded after a resident said their basement wall caved in, and water started rushing into their apartment.

Fire crews say part of the water flow was from a water main break on Thursday that they believe was repaired.

“We don’t know if there was a second break, or if the first break wasn’t properly repaired,” said Christopher Martin with the Brockport Fire District. “We have no way of knowing that at this time.”

Once first responders got there, they were able to shut off the water and say there is not a hazard to the people living there.

The people living in the apartment are being moved to temporary housing because crews are concerned the wall will continue to collapse.
