Family escapes fire on Shelter St., dog does not

ROCHESTER, N.Y. The Rochester Fire Department responded to 235 Shelter St. Monday night to several calls reporting a house fire. The structure was a 2 ½ story, three family home.

Two adults, and three children were home, and everyone made it outside safely before the fire crews arrived. The fire spread to the roof, and it took firefighters about 30 minutes to get the fire under control.

The quick response and actions of the firefighters limited the fire damage to one apartment. Two other apartments received minimal damage. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries reported however, one dog died. Red Cross was on the scene to assist the occupants.

At this time, the cause of the fire appears to be electrical in nature.
