ROCHESTER, N.Y. — It took 42 firefighters an hour to get a house fire on Copeland Street under control overnight.

The Rochester Fire Department responded to the fire on the city’s east side around 11 p.m. on Monday and saw flames coming from multiple windows on the first and second floor. Crews, which had to call a second alarm, started attacking the fire from the outside and then moved inside.

RFD says it was difficult for firefighters to get through doorways because of large appliances and furniture. There were also holes on the first floor. Crews managed to stop the fire from spreading to neighboring homes using hose lines from the outside.

RFD says the home will most likely need to be torn down because of the heavy damage and because crews are unable to safely re-enter the building to put out the remaining hot spots. No one was hurt in the fire and the cause is still under investigation.
