UPDATE: Parent in custody after allegedly assaulting deputy at Sodus Middle School
SODUS, N.Y. — Two women were arrested after a disturbance at Sodus Intermediate School in which they’re accused of assaulting a Wayne County sheriff’s deputy serving as the school resource officer.
Amy M. Stephens, 40, of Sodus and Denise A. Bardin, 58, were arrested. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the two were being disruptive at the front office and refused to leave the school Tuesday afternoon, so the resource officer was summoned. When the officer told them they needed to leave the premises, they hit the officer and then resisted arrest, deputies say, adding that the SRO and a school staff member had minor injuries. Deputies say a child was in the office but unharmed.
Stephens was charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest, endangering the welfare of a child and third-degree criminal trespass. She was taken to the Wayne County Jail for arraignment.
Bardin was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, third-degree criminal trespass, obstructing governmental administration and second-degree harassment. She was released on appearance tickets and is to appear later in Sodus Town Court.
