ROCHESTER, N.Y. Vertus High School held its Back to School Jam event this weekend ahead of the new school year.
It was the third part of its Summer of Hope Community Series. School administrators wanted to give community members an opportunity to come view the campus and get some free school supplies.
They also had free food from the Taco Dero food truck, free haircuts and live music from a Billboard-charting artist.
“At a time where our society and our city seem divided and there’s a lot of negativity going on, we’re trying to be a light in a dark place in many regards,” Vertus High School Senior Recruiter Michael James said. “So with this event going on here today what you’re seeing is the community coming together.”
Vertus High School’s first day back to school is Sept. 7, and there are still seats open for people interested in applying.
