Canada extends emergency powers regarding COVID restrictions
CANADA (WHEC) — Canada lawmakers voted to extend the emergency powers of officials, giving police more authority to head off any potential restart of blockades by people who disagree with COVID restrictions.
Canada Prime Minister JustinTrudeau says he wants to keep the powers in place, even after police were able to end the rally by truckers this February and police ending border blockades before that.
Police are able to freeze truckers’ personal and corporate bank accounts and get tow truck companies to haul away vehicles under the rarely used Canadian Emergencies Act.
