Hilton: 3 arrested at Board of Education meeting for refusing to wear mask or leave when asked
HILTON, N.Y. (WHEC) — Three attendees of Tuesday night’s Hilton Board of Education meeting were arrested, one for refusing to wear a mask, the district announced Wednesday.
Hilton Central School District Director of Communications Grace Scism said there were several attendees who would not wear masks at the Tuesday night meeting, and that they were asked repeatedly to put one on.
Scism said all eventually complied except for one. That person was asked to leave and refused. Scism said that person was arrested by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and charged with trespassing.
The other two arrests stem from before the public portion of the meeting when Scism said a group of attendees was being disruptive. School Board President Brian O’Connor and Superintendent Casey Kosiorek suspended the meeting, and the auditorium was cleared, Scism said; except for two people who were arrested for refusing to leave.
