Victoria McIlvain

Victoria is a native of Jamestown, NY and has been fascinated with weather since she was born. Her parents recall her being obsessed with the movies “Twister” and “The Wizard of Oz” while still practically a toddler. At the young age of three, she was sitting on the couch at her grandmother’s house when a tornado warning came on the T.V. and she instructed her to head into the basement to seek shelter.

This fascination with the weather never did leave her. However, she was drawn to the stage during her high school years which led her to pursue an Associate’s in Fine Arts at Jamestown Community College and a B.M. in Performance from Mercyhurst University. She sang many lead roles in operas during her time at Mercyhurst and won first place in a classical voice competition in her senior year.

Three years after graduating with her degree in music, Victoria decided to go back to school to pursue to my first passion – weather. It was a nudge she could not get rid of. She started prerequisites in math and science at Jamestown Community College in 2020, and later transferred to SUNY Brockport to continue her B.S. in Meteorology. She has since been forecasting and airing live broadcasts with the campus radio station, 89.1 The Point; has become a member of the American Meteorological Society and National Weather Association; and has been chosen to represent the Earth Science Department as a Student Member on the Dean’s Advisory Board for the School of Arts and Sciences.

In the summer of 2024, she was offered a weather internship at News10NBC which turned into her dream job. She is incredibly thankful for this opportunity as she continues to grow as a meteorologist and weather forecaster with an incredible weather team.
