Victor Town Supervisor Marren expresses disappointment to Constellation Brands decision to move

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Less than three hours after News10NBC first learned that Constellation Brand will move to downtown Rochester, we met with Victor Town Supervisor Jack Marren who says he first heard the news about the upcoming move about three weeks ago. He also said, "Hats off to the City of Rochester, disappointment in Ontario County."

Constellation Brands upcoming move to Rochester is going to leave a big void not only in the Town of Victor, but Marren says throughout Ontario County.

"Certainly we’re pleased during the time that we had Constellation here. Significant hole to fill no question about that," said Marren.

Constellation Brands not only produces, but also markets beer, wine, and spirits from different countries around the world. Although not happy with the news, Marren is equally unhappy that County leaders were not given the opportunity to try and keep the company from moving.

"I think their minds were made up," said Marren. He goes on to say, "They saw certainly a significant benefit going to the downtown Rochester area, and my understanding again I haven’t read everything about it, but my understanding some stated incentives as well."

Marren recalls how during the height of the pandemic when most Constellation Brands employees worked from home, the local economy took a big hit.

"So we lost foot traffic, and I say that foot traffic out in our coffee shops, restaurants, you know gas stations. Things of that nature," said Marren.

In the meantime, Marren says the Town of Victor will move forward, as it presents new opportunities for companies looking to start, or move to and call Ontario County home.

"I know the developers are an aggressive group of individuals, and by the time Constellation ends up vacating the building, and I think they’re still there for 2022 and ’23. I’m sure the Rinaldi family will have something to offer the Town of Victor, and Ontario County," said Marren.

So far a move-out date hasn’t been announced yet.
