Local State Senator announces support for Empire State Digital Gaming Media Production Credit

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester-area State Senator Jeremy Cooney (D, 56) announced his support for the Empire State Digital Gaming Media Production Credit.

It’s designed to encourage investment in video game production in New York.

New York accounts for only a small percentage of the $43 billion video game market in the U.S. The industry is projected to grow by 27% over the course of four years.

If passed and signed into law, the credit would cover 25% of the production costs of a digital gaming media production, and an additional 10% if the company is located upstate.

"I want Rochester to have a front-row seat," Cooney said. "I want Rochester and Upstate New York and New York State to be a leader."

The available funding would be up to $50 million a year.

The bill was introduced in the State Senate by Sen. Neil Breslin (D, 44). It is still in committee.
