ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — 36-year-old Richard Massey Jr. died after being struck by the driver of a car who then fled the scene. The fatal accident happened on Sunday just before 2:20 a.m.
Rochester Police says there was an initial minor car accident at N. Winton Rd. near Blossom Rd. in Rochester. Massey Jr. was not involved in that accident, but knew one of the drivers, and pulled over on the side of the road.
As Massey Jr. got out of his car, he was hit by one of the cars in the initial accident. That driver then fled the scene after hitting Massey Jr.
RPD is asking for anybody with information, specifically a witness driving a dark colored SUV at the time of the accident.
The Major Crimes Unit has since been able to identify, locate and impound the vehicle that hit and killed Massey Jr.. However, the registered owner has not fully cooperated with investigators, so RPD is still trying to figure out if the hit-and-run was an intentional act.
RPD says there is much physical and video evidence that should help to confirm exactly what happened.
