Monroe Community Hospital halts long-term care, rehabilitation admissions

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Monroe Community Hospital announced Monday that they will be pausing their long-term care and rehabilitation admissions in anticipation of a potential staffing crisis.

In a memo that was sent out to staff, the decision was due to the uncertainty surrounding staffing and the vaccine mandate that will take effect on Sept. 27.

"The determination to temporarily limit admissions until the impact of the 9/27 vaccine mandate on staffing levels are fully known was not taken lightly," Deputy County Executive for Health and Human Services Corinda Crossdale said. "and is a necessary step in ensuring our residents receive optimal care. Pending admissions prior to the limitation becoming effective will be completed in a timely fashion."

Health officials say approximately 90% of nursing homes across New York State have chosen to limit admissions until the impact of the vaccine mandate is known.
