News10NBC obtains former Greece Police Chief’s resignation letter

GREECE, N.Y. (WHEC)— News10NBC now has the resignation letter of former Greece Police Chief, Andrew Forsythe, who resigned Monday following the fallout from a crash last week.

The letter, sent out on Monday, was addressed to Town Supervisor Bill Reilich. It says:

"At your request, I hereby submit my letter of resignation from the position of Chief of Police effective immediately."

As mentioned in the letter, Forsythe’s resignation was requested by Reilich. The supervisor told reporters Monday he found out about Forsythe’s crash last Thursday but had no idea until days later that the former chief had driven on three wheels for five miles after the crash.

The former chief initially was placed on administrative leave.

The Greece Police Department reports Forsythe swerved to avoid a deer Thursday morning and crashed into a guardrail. The department says Forsyth couldn’t radio in at the time so he drove his damaged SUV away from the scene. The Monroe County District Attorney’s Office confirmed to News10NBC that some of its investigators were at the scene of the crash Sunday morning.

News10NBC filed a Freedom of Information Request for the police report, phone records, police video, and names of officers who showed up at scene. The town of Greece told us it was directed by the District Attorney’s office not to release that information, because of the office’s investigation.
