ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WHEC) – The NFL Trade Deadline was at 4 p.m. on Tuesday and the Buffalo Bills made two separate deals to bring in Nyheim Hines from the Indianapolis Colts and Dean Marlowe from the Atlanta Falcons.
Hines comes to Buffalo after spending the first five seasons of his career in Indianapolis. He’s made his worth in the NFL as a pass-catching running back. Since entering the league, Hines is fifth in the NFL in receiving yards as a running back. He’s also dangerous as a punt returner.
Marlowe will be in his second stint with the Bills after spending 2018-20 in Buffalo. As a safety, the Bills will look to Marlowe to provide depth, as All-Pro Micah Hyde is out for the season and All-Pro Jordan Poyer has been battling as many nagging injuries as any player on the team in 2022.
Both additions will be key and both additions are also excited to be in Buffalo.
“I just want to help this offense become more high-powered and bring some sort of speed and versatility to this offense. We got a lot of great playmakers and I hope to be a guy who helps,” said Hines.
“They do a great job bringing in great guys in here. And that’s been the motive. It’s always about the people,” said Marlowe.
The Bills sent away two draft picks in the deals, but also had to part ways with Zack Moss to acquire Hines. That part is always the hardest.
“You hope that it’s best for both in this case,” said Bills head coach Sean McDermott.
Moss was drafted by Buffalo in 2020 and peaked in 2021 before not playing at all in weeks 6 and 8 this season. But he was still a good friend to players in the locker room, which often goes unseen behind the playing field.
“It’s tough. It’s just the nature of the business. I’m rooting for him,” said Bills running back Devin Singletary.
Hines wasn’t able to practice on Wednesday as Moss still had to pass his physical.
