Bills players react to Josh Allen’s game-clinching run

The Buffalo Bills handed the Kansas City Chiefs their first loss of the season as a late touchdown run from Josh Allen sealed the game.

“Really had a play for man, could have checked out of it. They held a pretty good man look, they dropped down to zone again, just trying to create and keep the play alive,” Allen said. “There was a crease and just trusted with the feet.”

With 2:17 left in the fourth quarter, the Bills were faced with a 4th & 2. Instead of kicking what would have been 43-yard field goal to take a five-point lead, Bills head coach Sean McDermott opted to put the ball in Josh Allen’s hands.

“We mapped it out during the week and felt strongly that that was the right decision,” McDermott said. “I don’t want to be resulting, if you will, but would have stood by it, if it didn’t work out, just felt like there’s been too many games where Andy [Reid] and Patrick [Mahomes] come back.”

The gamble paid off. Allen took the snap, pump-faked left then roamed to his right. Finding an opening up the middle, Allen cut upfield, scurried past the line of scrimmage, and then the first down marker. At the 18-yard line, Allen escaped an arm tackle, then broke another tackle at the five-yard line before bouncing off a third defender near the goal line and breaking the plain to complete the 26-yard score.

“All I seen was Josh bouncing off the tackles and then he fell into the end zone,” said starting left tackle Dion Dawkins. “Josh is crazy.”

“Man I love when we go for it. You know what I’m saying? With a quarterback like Josh, I’m always thinking we going to get it,” said starting nickel Taron Johnson. “And a lot of times we get it. So I love that call. He made a play like he always does and got into the endzone.”

The touchdown and extra point made the score 30-21 and effectively put the game to bed with 2:17 left.

“When Josh takes off, I find myself sometimes just like watching like wow, like he’s different,” Khalil Shakir said. “And then as that’s going on in my head, oh my goodness, let me just follow up the play. When he took off today, I just started yelling, I couldn’t stop yelling. I mean, I blacked out a little bit. He’s a he’s a dog. He’s a great leader, a great dude, love the dude.”

On the day, Allen threw for 262 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Both Allen’s passing and rushing touchdown came in the second half, the former of which was thrown to wide receiver Curtis Samuel, his first score as a Bill.

“It’s just about execution, 11 guys playing together, gratefully I was on the end of a touchdown,” Samuel said. “I got my first touchdown, which I was happy for. Everybody was going crazy. I told you, when I get in the endzone, I was gonna dance now, so let’s keep it going.”

Allen has thrown 18 touchdowns and five interceptions on the year while running for five more touchdowns.
