HENRIETTA, N.Y. (WHEC) – Thomas Proctor doesn’t take many breaks. You can’t when you’re a two sport athlete – in the same season.
Proctor challenged himself to be the kicker/punter for the Rush-Henrietta football team and the goalkeeper for the Royal Comets’ soccer team.
“I’d wanted to do that last year as well but I just didn’t think it’d be possible. This year I decided, well, might as well at least give it a shot,” said Proctor.
As you can imagine, that wasn’t a breeze in the park. It came with struggles, as Proctor had to make sure his grades were up. He also found time to volunteer at a blood drive and participate in other school activities.
“I did miss a couple of practices just to let my body take a break and try and keep myself fit for that. But other than that I never missed a thing,” said Proctor.
Of course, those are very well deserved reasons to miss practice. Proctor went a step further though, to explain why he thinks it’s better to keep yourself busy.
“When you get down to it, you have to have stuff that you’re doing, have to have stuff that you’re working towards, goals. Things to aspire to be. I mean, if you don’t have that you’re not really giving everything you can to how you live,” said Proctor.
For him? That’ll mean heading to college and trying to play sports. He hasn’t picked a school yet, but either way, they’ll have a dedication student on campus.
