ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) – RNY FC, in year one of the MLSNEXTPRO soccer league, has found team chemistry – even with the odds stacked against them.
The only independent soccer club in the new league, RNY FC got off to a late start to practices and didn’t play any preseason or friendly matches.
“Really tough and challenging season to be honest. We started really late. It was a struggle to get the working visas for me, my assistant coaches, and the foreign players,” said head coach Bruno Baltazar.
Yet the club finds themselves in fourth place in the Eastern Conference, which would make them a playoff team if the season ended today on August 12.
The key? Team chemistry they found despite the odds.
“We had a bunch of struggles at the beginning of the season, but the group that was put together is a hard working group and I think we have the right mix,” said defender Lamar Batista.
Together, RNY FC is using that team chemistry to try and achieve their ultimate goal.
A championship in year one.
