Two people injured in three shootings in the city on Sunday night
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — It was a violent end to the weekend in Rochester. Three shootings happened on Sunday afternoon and night within four hours.
The first shooting happened on Avenue D near Conkey Avenue around 4:45 p.m. Officers say that, when they got to the street, there was a fight and evidence of gunfire. They heard that someone fired a gun, then ran into a house. There’s no word on whether anyone was hit. Officers closed down part of Avenue D but it has since reopened.
Then, around 8:20 p.m., police responded to Velox Street off Dewey Avenue for a 26-year-old man who had been shot. After investigating, police say the victim had a licensed gun in his car and his young child got access and accidentally fired the gun.
The father is being charged with endangering the welfare of a child for having a firearm accessible to a young child. An ambulance took him to Strong Hospital and he is in stable condition.
Minutes later, around 8:30 p.m., police responded to Lincoln Street near Merrimac Street. Officers found a 30-year-old who had been shot. An ambulance took the victim to the hospital. The victim is in serious condition.
No suspects are in custody for the shootings on Avenue D or Lincoln Street. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
