ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A popular distillery in our area that many compare to Kentucky’s finest is expanding.
Black Button Distilling is the first distillery in Rochester since prohibition. On Tuesday, the company announced the groundbreaking of a new tasting room and distillery on University Avenue.
With the added bonus of a bigger site, owners say the average production of its spirits will increase from 1,000 barrels a year to as much as 4,500 barrels.
“This is what it’s about,” said State Senator Jeremy Cooney. “People say ‘you go to Albany, what do you do there?’ You pass a budget, you write some bills. It’s about helping small businesses, helping individuals who are committed to our community, accomplish their dreams — and by the way, create good-paying jobs and a source of entertainment and experiences for Rochesterians.”
Black Button Distilling has been around for ten years in our area. The target opening date of the new location is set for late spring or early summer of next year.
