BRIGHTON, N.Y. — Free catalytic converter kits are being handed out in Brighton. It’s an effort to combat ongoing thefts.
The Brighton Police Department is partnering with Rochester company Metalico to hand them out for public safety day. Kits will be available this Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Brighton farmers market or until supplies last.
Each one has a non-destructible tag and etching fluid to write a unique serial number on the converter. That number will be recorded by scrap and recycling facilities when a catalytic converter is brought in to identify potential thieves.
