Man dies in fiery crash with utility pole in Webster

WEBSTER, N.Y. — A man is dead after his car slammed into a utility pole and caught fire in Webster on Thursday morning.

The crash happened just after 5 a.m. at the intersection of Holt Road and Route 104. The man was the only one inside the car and the impact knocked over power lines. Webster Police said that, when they arrived, the engine compartment was fully engulfed in flames and the flames were headed to the cabin.

First responders pulled the man from the car and performed CPR. He was rushed to Strong Hospital with severe injuries, where he died. Police are waiting to notify the man’s family before releasing his name and age.

News10NBC’s crew could still smell smoke even two hours after the crash. Police said the intersection may be shut down for the rest of the day. The state’s Department of Transportation shared this statement:

“Crews are actively responding to this morning’s crash at the intersection of State Route 104 and Holt Road. It is anticipated that crews will be working well into the evening to repair the signals and equipment damaged by the crash. Motorists are advised to seek an alternative route and are urged to drive cautiously through this area.”
