THIS FRIDAY: Caribbean-American block party, Movies in the Park, and more
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — There’s so much going on around Rochester on Friday, including the Caribbean-American Heritage Block Party, this season’s first Movies in the Park, and the second-to-last day of the jazz festival. Here is your guide:
Caribbean-American Heritage Block Party
Rochester’s third annual Caribbean-American Heritage Block Party is set for Friday. Mayor Malik Evans will join leaders of the Rochester West Indian Festival organization and the Rochester Jamaican Organization for the event.
It will include food and live music. The Block Party kicks off at 5 p.m. at City Hall.
Movies in the Park
The annual Movies in the Park is back. The county is screening six free family-friendly films throughout the summer at its parks, Innovative Field, and Seneca Park Zoo. All movies begin at dusk, about a half hour before sunset.
The series will kick off with a screening of Atlantis at Ontario Beach Park on Friday. Here is the lineup for the rest of the season. The Aug. 7 screening at Innovative Field will begin at 7 p.m.:
- The Lego Movie (July 12 at Webster Park Campground)
- The Sandlot (July 18 at Innovative Field)
- The Lion King (July 26 at Seneca Park Zoo)
- Honey I Shrunk the Kids (Aug. 7 at Innovative Field)
- A Bug’s Life (Aug. 30 at Highland Park)
CGI Rochester International Jazz Festival
Friday and Saturday are the final days of the 21st annual CGI Rochester International Jazz Festival, packed with live performances from all-star acts and two final free headliners.
Cimafunk, a Grammy-nominated Afro-Cuban artist, will perform at Parcel 5 on Friday at 9 p.m. Rejuvenation, a performance led by a New Orleans modern funk ensemble, will be the final headliner at Parcel 5 on Saturday at 9 p.m.
