ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A local soldier killed while serving in Afghanistan was recognized on Tuesday by his alma mater.
McQuaid Jesuit High School held a ceremony to dedicate this memorial bench in honor of army specialist Theodore Matthew Glende. Glende graduated from McQuaid in 2007.
“I just can’t imagine a better example of what specialist Glende did as a better example of being a man for others, literally laid down his life to save other soldiers,” said retired Col. Mark Tallo of the Army National Guard
While on patrol in Afghanistan in 2012, Glende’s unit came under attack. Glende was killed while he was helping his fellow soldiers who were wounded.
