Consumer Alert: Retailers compete for your buck during Amazon’s sale. Here are the deals I found

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — For days I’ve been telling you about a deal on a 55” smart TV that retails on Amazon for $560. But during Amazon’s Prime Early Access sale, it would go for 80 percent off.
On Tuesday, I showed you how to set notifications for lightning deals. That deal dropped at exactly 9 a.m. EST on Wednesday. But I made a mistake that cost me precious seconds.
I already had the TV in my cart, and that was my undoing. The system wouldn’t let me check out with the discounted price. I wasted precious seconds dumping the TV in my cart and tapping the deal to get the sale price of $109.
It took me fewer than 30 seconds. But I wasn’t fast enough. All the TVs had been claimed, and I had to join a waitlist on which there are few spots. I’d get the chance to buy the TV if someone who put it in their cart didn’t buy it in 15 minutes. And yes, you guessed it. I waited all day but didn’t get to nab that deal.

I’m telling you about these bargains to show you the old rules regarding pre-Christmas sales have been tossed out the window this year. Experts used to say to wait until Black Friday for TVs and discounted electronics.
This year the discounts are deeper and earlier. So while most of us didn’t get that great Amazon Fire TV at 80 percent off, there are other deals to be had. This year, retailers are swimming in inventory. Shop smart. Shop early. And save big money.
