RPD: Suspect fires gun while running from officer after abandoning stolen car

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester Police say a suspect fired a gun while running from an officer on Friday morning. It happened on Gorsline Street off Lake Avenue.

The officer wasn’t hit and the direction of the gunshot is unknown. It all started when two RPD officers tried to pull over a stolen Hyundai around 12:45 a.m. at Flower City Park and Maplewood Drive. Police say two people abandoned the car and ran in opposite directions.

RPD says one suspect ran toward Gorsline Street while he was holding a handgun and fired one round as an officer was chasing him down. Police haven’t found either suspect. Officers determined that the Hyundai was stolen from the city on Wednesday.

News10NBC’s photojournalist saw dozens of officers closing down several streets along Lake Avenue from Flower City Park to past Route 104. RPD says those streets have since reopened. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
