ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — New York’s Congressional Primary is one week from Tuesday. Early voting is underway for certain counties in our area through Sunday.
Livingston, Orleans, and Wayne Counties will hold Republican primaries for the newly drawn 24th Congressional District. Registered Republicans are also able to vote in Ontario and Yates County in the 24th and 23rd district primaries.
This is the second New York Primary this summer. The primaries are later than usual because the NY State Court of Appeals, the state’s highest court, ruled that the redistricting maps drawn up by Democrats were unconstitutional. The maps had to be redrawn, which delayed the primaries.
The state was able to hold the primaries for governor in June. However, primaries for Congress or State Senate were pushed back until next Tuesday. The General Election is still on November 8th.
