FAIRPORT, N.Y. (WHEC) — In Fairport, district leaders are excited and ready to go. The district is making sure they check off any last-minute to-do lists before welcoming students to the fall semester, including some new learning tools for the elementary kids!
“We’re ready to go,” Fairport CSD Superintendent Brett Provenzano said. “We’re excited and charged. Our staff’s going to be coming back on Thursday and we’re looking forward to welcoming them and getting them geared up for the school year and focusing on our fundamentals, which are connecting with students, and making sure that they have all the resources they need so they can be successful.”
With eight schools in the district and more than 5,000 students ready to put their thinking caps on, Provenzano said they’ve been preparing to make sure students get the very best education.
“Being engaged, being a part of something special. Elementary students are going to have a new master schedule,” Provenzano said. “They’re going to have an activity period so they can experience the joy and wonder of schools, extracurricular activities embedded in the school day, enrichment music, and the arts. We’re excited about a new steam lab where students are going to have an opportunity to come in and receive enrichment and opportunities to problem-solving, engage and we’re excited about the prospects at the elementary level for that schedule.”
As for parents, with recent incidents of violence in schools across the country, Provenzano says they have their safety plans up to date to make it a safe learning experience.
“It’s a priority,” Provenzano said. “You’ll see it in our schools. We have safety drills. We have processes in place that are best practices for talking to students, and making warm, welcoming, friendly environments, because we know that that’s the number one factor in making sure that we have safe schools where people feel comfortable to learn.”
Schools in Fairport start next week on Wednesday, September 7th.
The district is also hiring for a handful of positions. If you are interested in working for the district you can find that information here.
