ROCHESTER, N.Y. Not as cool but definitely a comfortable start to the Labor Day weekend.
Temperatures this afternoon will reach the mid and upper 80s as the summer vibes continue. We will see a little more in terms of cloud cover as well, but mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies are expected today before clouds increase late tonight.
There is a slight chance for a shower in the Finger Lakes late this afternoon, but most of us will be dry. The better chance for showers will be on Sunday and Monday.
A cold front will slowly swing through on Sunday and bring us cloudier skies with the chance for a passing shower or two throughout the day. Sunday is not a washout by any means, but definitely cloudier and cooler with highs in the low 70s.
A better chance for rain will move in late Sunday and into Labor Day morning. The cold front will swing to our south and become stationary, allowing a weak wave of low pressure to ride along the front and bring us a better chance for showers and rain.
Most of the rain on Monday will occur early before we transition over to isolated showers in the afternoon. Also, the best chance for widespread rain will be for areas south of the thruway with the rest of the region generally expected to see some scattered shower activity.
A complete washout on Labor Day is not expected, but a damp Monday is on the way. As far as rain totals, models continue to be inconsistent. For the forecast, we are expecting .5″ to 1″ with localized amounts down in the Finger Lakes potentially seeing near 1.5″ or more, but no flooding is expected.
