ROCHESTER, N.Y. RFD is working to figure out what caused a house fire on Potter Street.

It happened around 5:20 a.m. Saturday. No one was injured in the fire, thanks to firefighters moving an occupant with disabilities to safety.

“As crews began to enter and battle the original house on fire, crews radioed that the kitchen ceiling and cabinets had collapsed, blocking their path to escape,” RFD Deputy Chief Jim Ryan said via email. “A Battalion Chief immediately called a Mayday and requested a second-alarm assignment.”

It took firefighters just over an hour to place the fire under control. The house suffered significant fire damage both inside and outside, and a neighboring home suffered heat damage to the exterior.
