ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Neighbors are reacting to the deadly shooting on a 31-year-old man over the weekend on Hudson Avenue.

Julius June was killed on Saturday night. Rochester Police say they responded to the area on Hudson Avenue between Agnes and Peckham streets around 9 p.m. Officers found a man shot in his torso, who died at the scene.

When asked about the homicide, a neighbor who wished to remain anonymous said that she is not surprised that something like this would happen in the area and hopes that police do more to keep the area safe.

“Take the guns off the streets and maybe have police patrol the streets and things like that because people do have kids that do live in the neighborhood and do go to school during the daytime. Crime happens during the daytime. Crime happens during the nighttime,” the neighbor said.

A man, who wants to be known as “Sousa,” said the gunshot woke him out of his sleep.

Police learned June was in a verbal fight with someone else in the street, the altercation escalated, and he was shot. June ran to a local business and died from his injuries there.
