Man, 48, dies after shooting on Schwartz Street

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A man, 48, has died of his injuries after being shot in his car Tuesday night on Rochester’s southwest side.

Rochester Police say the man, Karl Jones, was shot multiple times in the upper body on Schwartz Street near Jefferson Avenue. An ambulance rushed the man to Strong Hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died.

RPD investigators say the shooter was on foot when Jones was shot while sitting in the driver’s seat. The shooting happened around 6:15 p.m. This is not the first shooting in the area, police say.

“There have been shootings in this area even in the last few months,” RPD Capt. Ryan Tauriello said. “I’m certainly not going to have any information that would make those shootings related in any way. This appears to be an isolated incident.”

RPD is asking anyone with information or video to call 911.
