Domestic dispute turns deadly: 24-year-old man shot and killed by girlfriend on Thurston Road identified
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A 24-year-old man, Shaquan Woods, was shot and killed inside a home on Thurston Road on Sunday according to the Rochester Police Department.
After police went to 816 Thurston Rd. after receiving a report that a man was shot, they found Woods dead inside the home from a gunshot wound.
Police took 31-year-old Shayla Betances into custody at the scene and recovered a handgun believed to be the weapon involved in the shooting.
The investigation found that Betances and Woods were boyfriend and girlfriend. On Sunday evening there was a physical altercation which resulted in Betances allegedly shooting Woods one time in the upper body with a handgun.
Betances has been charged with manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon. She is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in Rochester City Court.
